A correspondent in Brazil for your firm
Brazilian lawyer, OAB/MG 155.242, admitted in Brazil only. Not legal advice under your local law.
Your client was arrested in Brazil, is under investigation here, or needs something done before a Brazilian court or registry. You keep the client; we act in Brazil under your instructions, and report to you in English, in writing.
Write to the lawyer on WhatsAppWhat we do in Brazil
- Habeas corpus and attendance at the custody hearing.
- Prison visits and contact with the detained client.
- Following the criminal case and reporting each step.
- Documents, certificates and fact-finding before courts, registries and the police.
How it works
- Only a lawyer admitted in Brazil can act before Brazilian courts. The client signs a power of attorney to the Brazilian lawyer, or a Brazilian lawyer already on the case grants a substitution of powers (substabelecimento).
- The scope and the fee are agreed in a written engagement before any work starts.
- Communication with your firm is by e-mail, in English, with a written report after each relevant act.
- Professional secrecy and the inviolability of communications between lawyer and client are guaranteed by the Statute of the Brazilian Bar (Law 8.906/1994, art. 7).
No outcome or deadline is promised: each case depends on the evidence and the court.
Questions
Who is the client, my firm or the person?
Whatever you agree. The usual model is a written engagement with your firm, and the power of attorney signed by the person, so the Brazilian lawyer can act.
Where in Brazil can you act?
Court files are electronic and many hearings are remote, so in any state of Brazil; in person, from the office in Guaxupé (Minas Gerais), when the case requires.
Do you also handle extradition requests?
Yes. Extradition is decided by the Federal Supreme Court in Brasília, by electronic process.
