Locating the detainee — in Brazil the detainee is located through SEEU/BNMP and the enforcement court. The family can request it; a retained lawyer accesses the files.
Custody hearing — within 24 hours of arrest the judge decides. The presence of the defense changes the outcome.
Border and federal jurisdiction — international drug trafficking, smuggling and customs evasion go to the Federal Justice (art. 109 of the Constitution).

How you appoint a lawyer without travelling
You do not need to come to Brazil, and you do not need a middleman. The appointment is made remotely and the case runs electronically.
Power of attorney
signed where you are. For use in court it is apostilled (Hague Convention, in force in Brazil) and translated by a sworn translator — we tell you exactly which documents are needed.

identity papers and whatever you have of the case: case number, court, full name, mother's name and date of birth of the person involved.
How the case runs
filings are electronic (PJe, eproc, e-SAJ, SEEU) and hearings can be held by videoconference. You follow the case through the lawyer, in your language.

Do you assist foreigners who are not in Brazil?
Yes. All assistance is remote, from southern Minas Gerais, throughout Brazil. Hiring is done at a distance, by power of attorney apostilled in your country and translated when required.
What language will I be assisted in?
English. You write in your language and we reply in your language. We also assist in Spanish and Portuguese.
Do you only handle criminal cases?
No. The firm takes the case, triages it and resolves what it can; complex matters are referred to a specialist. We also handle binational family matters and give initial guidance on visa/residence, work, business and real estate.
